Amazon Workers Fight to Unionize ~ Labor Day
September has been packed with NYC street actions and hard to keep pace. This is the first in overdue recording with a slew of actions to follow. The Amazon workers rally Saturday, September 4th in Union Square had a fab lineup of speeches and march up Broadway to Jeff Bezos Penthouse with NYPD escort.
Chris Smalls is the face of the effort to unionize Amazon’s workers. Hi remarkable efforts challenging billionaire Bezos’ empire of greed and labor abuses has been reported in global media but scant mention in American corporate owned media.
Coverage of the event made The Guardian but none of the “news“ outlets headquartered here in NYC bothered to acknowledge the workers efforts. That’s a very common occurrence familiar to everyone involved with any grassroots campaign. Corporate news outlets lie by omission which is just another form of censorship.
First stop was NYC’s biggest slumlord with speakers detailing record of tenant abuses and inhumane profiteering. I forget who but NYC has Worst Landlord Watchlist with slumlords who should be jailed and have the city seize the buildings. For those who check it’s great to know who the dirtbags are before you rent but there is no evidence shame alters the abuses; many stay on the list for decades.
Next the crowd moved up Broadway to Jeff Bezos Penthouse overlooking Madison Square Park where there were more speeches and livestreams to a global audience. Increasingly what’s happening in our communities and streets is buried but if you unplug from social media and get out in the streets you will appreciate the old meme about the revolution not being televised. It’s all around us if you open your eyes.
Pictures for the full day of Amazon actions is at my Flickr and links with my pictures posted here. There’s also a full assortment of other street actions that MSM missed. Take a stroll through the censored actions and feel free to share any you like!
