Ceasefire Now Sunday NYC
However deep my disdain for the corrupt Washington war mongers and their propaganda media it's not enough contempt for the genocide they support.
My hope was to have the preview pics last night and album sorted today but it was not to be. After speeches at the library the crowd marched from NYPL down Fifth to 34th then accross to 8th Ave and back uptown to Times Square where I dropped out.
For every red light this group strolled out to the crosswalk to hold signs for stopped cars and many showed solidarity with friendly horn toots and peace sign hand waving but the double decker busses were the best with every one adding cheering tourists, filming on their way past the library.
There’s an empowering energy in the solidarity that flows through passionate crowds and NYPD estimated over 1,000 but to me it should be 100,000 or a million feet in the streets showing outrage like 1982 when one million filled Central Park to demand nuclear disarmament. Hat tip to our presstitute class and Hollywood the faithful TV watchers believe we protect democracy.
Among the signs were many that identify as Jews calling for cease fire and right of return for Palestine and the most impactful images may be the Hassidic Jews in trational garb because you know on sight their faith comes first. Veterans for Peace always have a showing because they know its savagery.
Of course there are sentiments expressed with a distictively NYC flair in addition to run of the mill slogans and mass printed signs. Here’s a sampling with some street shots to give a sense of the size and sinage.
A swarm of cameras that caught my attention was an arrest after the clash and AMNY has full details linked to Wayback capture.
It’s also impossible for me to watch NYPD crowd control at every event from New Year’s Eve to peaceful protest and not remark what a terrible, horrible entrapment and PR exercise January 6th was by Capitol Police and Congress. With all the tax dollars Americans pay for defense the Members of Congress play victims to an unarmed insurrection. Protecting a perimeter isn’t rocket science.
There were more NYPD bikers in front of The New York Times for one block of marchers than the Capitol Police had awaiting the crowd marching after Trump’s rally. Just when it seemed Russiagate was the most insipid hoax that we could be force fed we get poor defensless Congress overrun by citizens weilding cardboard signs.
The thought of getting pictures on the risers with iconic neon background was tempting, but after six or seven miles of walking and lots of climbing my everything was sore and tired. Shower, stretch and sleep the best cure and lucky me to not live in occupied Palestine where the horrors occurring daily are almost beyond the ability of the human mind to fully grasp. Where are all the other mothers? Here’s to everyone who showed up with a full album probably Tuesday. It’s busy season for resistance.. see you in the streets! <3
THANK YOU.
I wish there were a "love" thingie to click on... This brought tears to mine eyes, seeing all these peeps doing the Right Thing. Right ON. If only people around here were even interested enough to get outside and off their ass... Well, they watch propaganda news.
I'm so proud of you and everyone who went to do this.
XO XO XO for ever.
More great work. Showing up, shooting, spreading the news. A photojournalist at her best.
