New York City #HomeRun4Julian Sold Out
An all star panel and throngs of freedom loving New Yorkers call for DoJ to drop the charges. Journalism is not a crime.
Julian’s father and brother John & Gabriel Shipton are on a tour across America to help raise public awareness of the threat to global freedoms and Rule of Law tied to the prosecution of journalistic activity. Some of Julians oldest supporters will be at The People’s Forum Thursday night to help bring this decade of unlawful abuse to an end.
In prosecuting Julian Assange with America’s 1917 Espionage Act, a law virtully unused between WWI and the Obama Administration and widely viewed as unconstitutional, the DoJ defines informing the public about war crimes an act of espionage. By this act America has claimed global jurisdiction over publishing activity and asserts the right to restrict foreign citizens from sharing truth with the public even when the truth is crimes committed under International Law.
Prosecuting a foreign journalist for exposing US war crimes is a scandal from a legal perspective since crimes are expressly prohibited from being classified. Of the information can’t be clssified it has to be available to the public. The scandal deepens when DoJ claims citizens of soverign nations abide by American laws of loyalty rather than be governed by the laws of their own countries. Who made Washington God?
Worst perhaps it is a damning condemnation of the corporate media who no longer serve as the guardians of democracy but instead silence, smear and lie by design and omission to deny the public truthful information about who our government of the people serves. This unprecidented assault on human rights threatens us all with more gravity every day Julian is tortured in London’s GITMO for speaking truth to power.
We only have a democracy if those sworn to serve deliver as promised to uphold the Constitution and defend our rights. Since that’s not happenening and we get lip service, hypocricy and lies from our elected government and corporate media it is up to us to let the officials and MSM hear the public outrage.
They do care about holding power and will yield to public pressure if they feel it. Nothing is more powerful than phone calls if they are brief and polite and relentless. All of Congress can be reached through Capitol Switchboard 202-224-3121. Every letter and call to officials around the globe counts and don’t forget to send thanks to those who already defend Julian Assange, international law and free speech for all.
Don’t Extradite Assange Campaign curates a list of groups globally and many more can be found in the shared online accounts. We can only be heard if we speak out!
Tomorrow I will be an official photographer so expect a short article and huge trove of pictures from me late Friday and early pics @NYCFreeAssange Twitter/FB sooner! :~)
