One Planet Ruled By Corporate Profiteers ~ Where TPP Failed a Corrupt Judiciary Presses Onward
Robber barons were small fry compared to Capitol Mafia of looters & polluters, money is speech " corp personhood" rights in perpetuity & no humans liable.
For two years Steven Donziger has been under house arrest in his NYC apartment in a bastion of what is demographically a vocal, liberal community with big media names. In the first-ever criminal prosecution by a US corporation for the crime of prevailing in court holding Chevron liable for wanton pollution and epic death and disease.
On Friday for the two year anniversary of his house arrest there were actions in 18 cities around the globe. The pair of photos above give a sense of how it played out with exchanges between the crowd across the street and Steven with a megaphone from his window on the seventh floor. It’s a new twist on COVID tag line together apart.
My #FreeStevenDonziger album is at Flickr and my pics are free to share. There are some great resources to learn about this landmark case where the dirtbag corp law firm is making fortunes on taxpayers dime to jail the lawyers who dare to hold them accountable. Finally a Juice Media ad for the situation in Timor because they are always brilliant distilling an issue and it is very much the same story again and again as the public interest is sacrificed to the insatiable lust for profits at any cost.
Greg Palast ~
Hard hitting investigative journalist Greg Palast was part of the 18 cities protesting speaking at an event in Los Angeles. Palast has a great overview of the case and unprecedented corporate power grab with Chevron prosecuting Donziger.
“In 2011, they stopped laughing. That’s when an Ecuadorian court ordered Chevron to pay Criollo and other indigenous co-plaintiffs $9.5 billion. The courts found that Chevron’s Texaco operation had illegally dumped 16 billion gallons of deadly oil waste…
It’s been a decade, and Chevron still hasn’t paid a dime. But Donziger has paid big time: For the last two years, he’s been under house arrest, longer than any American in history never convicted of a crime.
But weeks ago, he was convicted of contempt by a judge who denied him a jury. (The Constitution? Faggedaboudit.) And on October 1, this contemptible judge will sentence Donziger, and could put him behind bars.
Who was the prosecutor? Not the US government, but Chevron’s law firm.
The first-ever criminal prosecution by a US corporation. Say what?“
Chris Hedges On Contact -
Chris Hedges always has his A game pairing keen insight with masterful oratory. “Today we discuss the corporate seizure of our judiciary with the persecuted human rights and environmental justice attorney Steven Donziger.”
Unauthorized Disclosures ~
Kevin Gozstola has been covering whistleblower and malicious prosecution cases for over a decade. He brings a depth of knowledge about corrupted justice few can rival. Rania is a nice compliment.
“Human rights attorney Steven Donziger joins the "Unauthorized Disclosure" weekly podcast to talk with Rania Khalek and Kevin Gosztola about the push for a new trial in the corrupt Chevron-backed case against him. If American bias colors your vision of this criminality try an Honest Government Ad
Hats off to The Juice Media with some of the most brilliant reporting anywhere.
“Today Witness K was forced to plead guilty to charges of breaking secrecy laws aka, blowing the whistle on shitfuckery. This hero should never have been the one on trial. Howard & Downer, should be.
We made an Honest Govt Ad about it in 2018 explaining why“
If you want to follow the case or help Steven Donziger is able to tweet though the pace of censorship to protect profiteers doesn’t make that a long term certainty.
