Anniversary rally at Times Square Saturday march to Washington Square Park
Turnout was over 25,000 by my guess you can figure ten across in tight street formation and the marchers stretched three crosstown blocks when they turned onto 34th and there’s a good long shot from the scaffolding. It was a huge crowd. About half made it all the way to Washington Square Park which is about twelve miles.
Last week’s NYPD objection to me climbing was an outlier glad it’s not a trend; today a few uniforms said “be careful” in friendly voices on their way past, whew!! Shooting street actions without height would seriously cramp my style.. height matters!
Empathy that was palpable in the No-Mandate protest when so many FDNY and other city workers lost jobs seems to be in much of the NYPD uniforms. I believe all New Yorkers develop an ability to feel the energy of people around us as part of our survival skills and my Ouija was picking up “Rich Men North of Richmond” vibes from lots of uniforms.. reality is potent and truth does hurt.
Apologies to the woman who has been a leader of the street actions and speaker and name I should know, but this was a beautiful portrait and my fall back having smarter, more informed friends who will add that in comments.
The rest is a first pass for a few pics that catch the spirit of the day..
Flickr album will probably be late Sunday… enjoy & see you in the streets! :~)
This is the only coverage I've seen this morning about this impressive and passionate rally in Times Square. Just to underscore the importance of your work! I didn't make it close to Washington Square, but I was proud to be there at the start. We will not be silenced!
Full album is huge.. long day lots of images and very last was Cornell West on my way out!! :~)
