My first sight from Constitution Avenue approaching the Lincoln Memorial was the billboard van that has become a fixture in Washington, D.C. for years now. It is a very sad reflection of our withering democracy that real journalism is a crime.
My focus is sorting pictures for a full day collection to upload to Flickr but a group are added here to give a flavor for the turnout and links to the real press who were there.
To appreciate the location there’s the US Capitol beyond the Washington Monument and the reflecting pool that leads to the Lincoln Memorial where the event was.
My own special shout out to NYC Veterans for Peace and NYC Free Assange groups who made the trip to DC and put feet in the NYC streets regularly year after year.
Event speakers were in a fenced area on the lower landing along with credentialed press. Because the fight to free Julian Assange has been a top activist priority for me kudos and thanks go to all the speakers who agreed to wear pink NYC Free Assange stickers also seen on NYC posts and mailboxes in my Flickr too!
What moved me to feature Jackson Hinkle as the stickered speaker was irritation with the handful who boycotted putting petty, personal issues over core values at the expense of bigger battles against the bloodthirsty oligarchy. All good is good. I’ll stand with anyone who defends free speech, free press and freedom for Julian Assange.
Prize for greatest distance traveled goes to Patrick Henningsen (left) who flew from London to have live reporting for his 21st Century Wire audience. Shortest distance goes to Consortium News publisher Joe Lauria but favorites together need to have equal billing and livestreams and reporting are available from both.
That’s it for my commentary so I can get back to sorting but remember the power players only hear us when we are united. Come join us & see you in the streets!!
Flicker has 1/2 cards uploaded almost 300 pics.. more anon! :~)

Thank you, this is very encouraging x Changing the world for one person (not only if they're Julian Assange) will change the world
Isn't it odd that we never hear an American politician of either major party campaign on seeking to negotiate arms reduction "trust but verify" treaties with Russia, China, and other major world powers? Not even so-called progressive candidates campaign for a more peaceful world. I find this shocking.
Let's face it. America is in the business of war. American arms manufacturers profit off of death and destruction, and America causes more of it around the world than any other country. We are the world's terrorist nation.
