My favorite is when folks put feet in the street & nothing quite as good for the soul as human contact and shared energy but Substack gets its share of Camelot points for that too! :~)
Isn't it odd that we never hear an American politician of either major party campaign on seeking to negotiate arms reduction "trust but verify" treaties with Russia, China, and other major world powers? Not even so-called progressive candidates campaign for a more peaceful world. I find this shocking.
Let's face it. America is in the business of war. American arms manufacturers profit off of death and destruction, and America causes more of it around the world than any other country. We are the world's terrorist nation.
Thanks so much for the coverage, Pamela. The news blackout by the MSM wasn't a surprise, but the failure of coverage by Democracy Now and Status Coup was very disappointing.
What would you estimate the crowd size to be?
I attended an anti-war rally in D.C. on April 24, 1971 along with 500,000 other people. That kind of crowd makes a big impression. I was hoping for a similar turnout, although I guess that was unrealistic. The draft was a major motivation in those days.
My guess based on comparing Times Square crowds with NYPD estimates was about 2,000 to maybe 2,500 for Ron Paul, Tulsi Gabbard & Dennis Kucinich part near the end with following march to the White House. There's a second card of pics I'm still sorting where you see the crowd grow as the day goes on but I'm so slow it may be another Substack post to note the same Flickr album doubled its size. :~)
Ouch, that's small, but big war protests in the 60s took many months of planning and organizing by many groups all over the country including very hardworking student organizations on every college campus. I was hoping that the all-star speaker lineup would have counted for more. Thanks so much for attending.
Getting to feel the energy off of your beautiful shots. Assange is symbol of our times. If they don’t free him, it sets the precedent for how effed we are. On the other hand, if Assange is freed, it’ll infuse humanity with hope that maybe, just maybe, we can rise above this tyranny.
Always thrilled folks enjoy the pics!! You're right about freeing Julian and pressure has been mounting globally but he was unwell when they locked him in Belmarsh and year five begins on April 11 so we always worry about how much torture he can endure so prayers its soon. <3
Thanks for this, and for going... If I weren't on the extreme other side of the country, I'd like to have been there! Looks a bit sparse, but dedicated. xo xo
Guessing crowd size is far from my long suit and giant spaces make every group look smaller, but based on NYPD estimates for events I've been to it's reasonable to say there were probably about 2,500 and ten thousand times more is what we need. Always next time since our war loving "Public SERVANTS" have trouble serving the taxpaying public or humanity.
Happier than taking pics is sharing and I'm still sorting so it's a tough call if they will get uploaded tonight but I'll add a link here or my albums this will have Julian billboard.
All free to download and share.. now that you found me maybe you will spot some floating around indy media where so many images have copyright restrictions.. happy stuff! <3
Yes it is and what an inspiring man Steve Donziger is by every measure. I have quite a few albums when he was under house arrest and for the court case.. if there are feet in the street for a good cause, odds are I have pics from Occupy onward heavily leaning into WikiLeaks, hactivists and whistleblowers but social justice and worker events too.
From my scaffolding perch a favorite Donziger pic during house arrest years..

So many Murkans are just zombie heads... I dunno... bad diets?
But it's also getting so expensive to travel much, esp. if you ain't got a job!
So glad you were able to go. Cheers!
We'll get through, it's just maybe Slog Days for a while...
Thank you for the pictures Pamela and yes, Free Assange!

The man we see on the first picture ¨Free Assange NYC UK Consulate Dec 10, 2022¨ is Steve Donziger. Another freedom fighter. https://stevendonziger.substack.com/p/why-i-asked-the-us-supreme-court
